we've all sinned, every one of us. so we need something, or someone, outside ourselves to redeem us from this fallen nature. that's the starting point — not guilt for its own sake, an honest diagnosis.

if we're all sinners, being a good person isn't enough to earn Heaven on our own. that's exactly where God's gift comes in: eternal life through Jesus, even as sinners. not earned. given.

He doesn't wait for us to clean up first. He loves us as we are — sinners — and gave Himself for us anyway. that's not a small thing to sit with.

if all of this is true, the only honest response is to actually follow Him, not just admire Him from a distance. we cannot bear good fruit if we're not near the vine — apart from Him we can do nothing.

did Jesus actually claim to be God? He did. God revealed His own name to Moses as "I AM" — and Jesus took that same name for Himself. if He was only a teacher, why bother obeying Him? but if He is God, everything changes: the teaching, the preaching, the peace He offered — all of it makes sense because He is the Lord.

even setting faith aside for a moment: read the Sermon on the Mount. look at what He actually taught. He knew what's good for us — the ethics hold up on their own, even for someone who isn't ready to believe yet.
